This role supports manufacturing operations in an IATF 16949–certified automotive environment, ensuring products and materials meet customer-specific requirements, regulatory obligations, and internal quality standards. The Laboratory Technician provides technical support related to the testing of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished goods. This position plays a critical role in defect prevention, product conformity, and customer satisfaction by delivering timely, accurate data and supporting corrective and preventive action processes. The technician maintains laboratory equipment, test methods, and quality records to ensure ongoing compliance with IATF 16949, AIAG Core Tools, and customer requirements. This role requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and accountability. The successful candidate must be able to manage multiple priorities, analyze data objectively, and communicate quality risks clearly in a high-volume manufacturing setting.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (AS) in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline OR Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in an IATF 16949 or ISO 9001–certified manufacturing environment, preferably supporting automotive customers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and trending
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents, customer specifications, control plans, and test standards
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, evaluate risk, and make data-driven recommendations
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain test results and quality concerns to cross-functional teams
  • Bias for action, accountability, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on defect prevention and customer satisfaction

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AIAG Core Tools (SPC, MSA, PPAP)
  • Previous experience with ISO 17025 or accredited laboratory environments
  • Experience using quality management systems, ERP, or LIMS for data entry and traceability

Responsibilities

  • Perform inbound, in-process, and outbound quality testing of products and materials in accordance with approved test methods, control plans, customer specifications, and IATF 16949 requirements
  • Review incoming material certifications and test data to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to release
  • Ensure full traceability of test results, samples, and records in accordance with customer, regulatory, and internal retention requirements
  • Develop, review, and maintain laboratory test methods, work instructions, and records in compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, AIAG Core Tools (SPC, MSA, PPAP), and customer-specific requirements
  • Support PPAP and product launch activities by generating required test data, reports, and documentation
  • Identify nonconforming test results or abnormal data trends and trigger defined containment actions and escalation
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities using structured methodologies such as 5-Why and Fishbone
  • Actively participate in daily quality communications, including reporting workload status, compliance to metrics, SPC trends, and quality risks
  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques, analyze trends, and support reaction plans for critical and significant characteristics
  • Participate in Measurement System Analysis (MSA) activities, including gauge R&R studies and ongoing measurement system monitoring
  • Prepare and review customer and internal test reports, clearly communicating results as required by business and customer needs
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Quality Assurance to resolve quality issues and improve processes
  • Support supplier quality activities by assisting with corrective and preventive actions related to supplier material issues
  • Participate in IATF 16949 internal audits, customer audits, and third-party certification audits, ensuring laboratory readiness and compliance
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, Layered Process Audits (LPAs), and quality-focused teams to drive defect prevention and process capability
  • Coordinate and manage external laboratory testing as required
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure continued accuracy, calibration compliance, and reliability
