About The Position

Laboratory Technician - Chattanooga, TN About Our Location: We are a cotton pulp processing plant located in Chattanooga, TN. We take raw cotton linters and process them into bleached pulp sheets that will be used as an additive for many applications including food and pharmaceuticals. In our lab we test finished pulp sheets and in-process samples. The average work day requires flexibility, as samples will need to be reanalyzed, additionally ran due to plant issues, or equipment may go down delaying analysis run times. In this role expect to prepare in-process and finished product samples; perform analytical testing using instrumental, wet chemistry procedures, and record results using computerized data systems.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have a two year science related degree and/or two years of lab experience.
  • Qualified candidates should be familiar with operating standard lab equipment (i.e., pH meter, balances, extractions, GC, ICP, etc.).
  • Position relies on instructions and pre-established procedures to perform the functions of the job.
  • The willingness and ability to work rotating night shift including weekends and holidays
  • Actively participate in training efforts and safety initiatives
  • Attention to detail following procedures, proper analytical technique and computer entry
  • Communicate results, problems, and priorities to supervisor and production departments in a timely manner

Responsibilities

  • Performing daily process monitoring tests throughout the plant as assigned.
  • Maintaining samples of tested product in order to confirm test results, if necessary.
  • Documenting results of all testing procedures and promptly notifying operations of required adjustments.
  • Entering and reporting data using a Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Understanding most production processes required in the production of product and may make recommendations to operators in order to achieve product quality.
  • Performing light maintenance and calibration on all ADM laboratory equipment.
  • Maintaining on-going records of the results of all testing procedures and inputs such data into computer on a daily basis.
  • Maintaining adequate supplies used for testing procedures and notifying the manager of the need to re-order such supplies.
  • Continually compares equipment readouts with samples of standards as required to insure that all systems are operating accurately.
  • Maintaining a neat and clean working area at all times, washing equipment as required and placing equipment in the proper storage areas.
  • Maintaining an effective working relationship with fellow employees.
  • Performing duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment and successfully completes all safety certification requirements.
  • Maintains awareness and adheres to all FDA, GMP, BATF, EPA, OSHA and employer standards and guidelines.
