About The Position

Spending your summer in the Erie area? Studying science and want real, hands-on lab experience? Curious what it’s like to work inside a hospital clinical laboratory? If that sounds like you, the UPMC Lab Internship Program could be the perfect fit. Spend 10 weeks working inside one of our hospital-based clinical labs in Northwestern Pennsylvania — learning from experienced Medical Laboratory Scientists, getting exposure to real testing environments, and building the foundation for a future career with UPMC. UPMC’s 10-week Lab Internship Program gives science students the opportunity to put what they’ve learned in the classroom into practice. This is a full-time, paid, hands-on experience designed for students who are serious about exploring lab careers. During the internship, you will: Work side-by-side with experienced clinical laboratory professionals Gain exposure to high-volume, high-acuity lab environments Learn how lab teams support real-time patient care Build confidence performing hands-on, detail-oriented lab tasks Grow your resume while exploring career pathways within UPMC Network with lab leadership and learn about future lab career opportunities If you’re interested in becoming a Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLT, or pursuing any clinical lab profession, this experience will help you sharpen your skills and see what a real hospital lab environment looks like day-to-day. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor of Science program from an accredited college/university
  • Accepted majors include: biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science
  • Completion of at least two semesters in your degree program
  • Full-time availability is required with limited time off during the 10-week program
