About The Position

The Department of Biology at Barnard College is seeking a full-time Laboratory Specialist. During the academic year, this role involves assisting with introductory-level lecture and laboratory courses, as well as teaching introductory biology laboratory courses. In the summer, the Laboratory Specialist will engage in collaborative projects with faculty members focusing on pedagogy, research, or other initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, or a related field
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency in Word, Excel
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with autonomy

• Prior experience in teaching, curriculum development, and management

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory biology laboratory sections each semester as needed
• Assist with curriculum development and course management to integrate high-enrollment introductory-level lecture courses with associated small-group sections
• Liaise with the lecture course including: Exam proctoring and scantron grading, Answering student logistical emails, Hiring and supervising TAs in collaboration with course professor, Attending lecture, Maintaining canvas site
• Collaborate on pedagogy, research and/or other projects under the supervision of Barnard faculty members
