About The Position

Provides laboratory services to meet the needs of patients performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices. Supervises personnel and testing/reporting of Laboratory procedures. Assures compliance with applicable regulations regarding laboratory operations. Responsible for accuracy of patient results and the efficient operation, staffing and budget of section assigned. Works to establish standardized best practices for laboratory processes in assigned sections or laboratory. Oversees processes to maintain Quality Control (QC), Quality Monitors, proficiency testing, Analytical Measurement Range (AMR), equipment comparisons, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment as applicable. Reviews result and maintains documentation. Investigates and resolves technical problems that may lead to patient result issues. Abides by federal, state, and accrediting agency regulatory requirements affecting area. Manages vendor recalls or other corrective actions. Prepares written documentation and maintains department records, reports, and files. Responsible for oversight of laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting testing results. Responsible for training and competency assessment of team members as required by accrediting agency. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and non-mandatory continuing education annually. Evaluates qualifications of potential employees; interviews and recommends for hire. Supervises and schedules team members. Is responsible for time and attendance records for team members. Initiates progressive disciplinary action, as needed, in collaboration with established chain of command. Conducts performance appraisals of team members. Complies with Policies and Procedures of Prisma Health. Implements new procedures, products, techniques, methodologies for area assigned. Evaluates new equipment and reagents for technical performance. Supports Prisma Health system and customer service and quality initiatives in a positive and productive manner. Supports Laboratory Guidelines and Procedures. Writes and updates procedure manuals in accordance with established document control procedures in a timely manner. Validates Laboratory Information System and other systems reporting as needed. Supports Prisma Health system and campus financial strategies in a positive and productive manner. Manages inventory, supplies and reagents. Manages departmental finances and forecast including processes to monitor operational and capital costs. Monitors financial variances in section or laboratory. Manages the purchase/requisition of laboratory supplies and equipment with Medical Director involvement Recognizes customer satisfaction issues and responds/escalates appropriately. Effectively coordinates and is responsible for and implements special projects and or tasks assigned. Attends meetings and participates on committees. May serve as Administrator on call for facility. Responds to and implements change. Consults with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services. Maintains open communication with other leaders, pathologists, and fellow team members. Uses positive and professional interpersonal skills to educate and support laboratory customers. Manages the environment of care by developing, implementing and monitoring processes to reduce and control environmental hazards and risks, preventing accidents and injuries and maintaining safe conditions for team members patients, staff and visitors. Maintains a safe and clean working environment and responds immediately to safety violations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical/Biological/Clinical laboratory science, or Medical Technology from an accredited institution or degree that meets ASCP or AMT certification requirements.
  • Four (4) years clinical laboratory setting
  • MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP)cm or Categorical (ASCP) or Categorical (ASCP)cm or MT (AMT)
  • State Laboratory Supervisor license or be license eligible (Required for team members working in Tennessee)
