LABORATORY PROCESSING TECHNICIAN - Full Time

About The Position

This is for a full-time processing technician in the clinical laboratory. The hours may vary slightly due to staffing constraints and workload, but weekday hours are 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, with weekend and holiday rotation required. Weekend hours are 6:00 to 2:30 pm. SUMMARY Perform laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, sorting, assessing, and distributing specimens of blood, urine, stool and other biological fluids. Performs moderately complex lab testing as needed.

Requirements

Associate degree in laboratory science preferred.
High school diploma or the equivalent required.
Recent training and experience in laboratory technology strongly preferred.
Must be able to communicate and effectively exchange information with laboratory staff, nursing staff, physicians, physician office staff, patients, patient’s families, other customers, and guests.
Requires judgment including prioritizing tasks according to medical urgency, efficiency, and good guest relations skills.
Stroke education is required.

Responsibilities

Perform laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, sorting, assessing, and distributing specimens of blood, urine, stool and other biological fluids.
Performs moderately complex lab tests.
Operate laboratory equipment such as a centrifuge and fume hood.
Operate laboratory computer terminals to enter, edit, or retrieve lab data in the lab module.
Answer telephone calls concerning patient results and specimen requirements, solve problems, and help customers with their questions.
Register patient samples and enter physician orders in the computer system.
Retrieve patient samples from outpatient clinic and adjacent physician offices.
Prepare specimens for transport to reference lab.
Performs moderate complexity testing accurately and in a timely manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
