Lighthouse lab Services seeks a Laboratory Manager to serve a new client on an exciting project in Durham, NC About the Client In this position, you’ll be joining an exciting early phase opportunity with a vibrant, financially supported, not-for-profit laboratory startup in The Research Triangle, NC dedicated to rare disease detection. The ideal candidate will be integral in the operation and management of lab services to accelerate the detection of the Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) gene. Overview The Laboratory Manager oversees day-to-day laboratory activities in a molecular testing environment, supporting PCR, NGS, immunoassay, and chemistry workflows. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient sample processing, instrument performance, documentation, and staff training across Quant Studio 5, Illumina, DXC 700, and KingFisher platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following: biology, medical technology, microbiology, chemistry, or biochemistry
  • At least 4 years’ experience working in a high complexity molecular testing lab, preferably in an independent reference lab
  • At least 3 years with proven supervision of laboratory testing
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop and motivate team members

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP certification highly preferred but not required
  • Experience with a start-up laboratory
  • Experience with NGS, PCR, and general Chemistry testing using but not limited to Quant Studio 5 for TaqMan assays, Illumina for validations, DXC 700 for immunoassays, and KingFisher instruments

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine testing, quality control, calibration, maintenance, and proficiency testing in accordance with current laboratory procedures
  • Follow and oversee all compliance standards in accordance with CLIA and CAP and safety guidelines at all times
  • Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance
  • Must be onsite to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by any individuals
  • Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Ensure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the established performance specifications
  • Ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the tests properly functioning
  • Provide training to all testing personnel
  • Annually evaluate and document the performance of all testing personnel
  • Perform other duties as directed?by leadership
