This temporary role will allow students to see how their technical skills can be applicable in an industry setting. The Laboratory Intern supports the Condition Monitoring Program by testing products and conducting research on lubricants and cleaners, as well as conducting routine quality testing on manufactured products. They are responsible for assisting senior chemists with developing new products and updating existing products to meet customer needs, market trends, and new technology. Flexible scheduling, approximately 10-20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Requires an individual who engages in safe laboratory practices
  • Requires strong oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate laboratory testing and draft technical written reports.
  • College sophomore or above completing a bachelor’s program in science or engineering
  • Previous laboratory experience in an academic setting (i.e. coursework) is required

Nice To Haves

  • College sophomore or above completing a bachelor’s program in chemistry or chemical engineering is preferred
  • Academic research and/or industry experience is preferred
  • A basic knowledge of industrial lubricants, product formulation and testing experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Function within the guidelines of the Ascentek “Team Ground Rules” and Mission Statement
  • Support research and development, used oil analysis, and quality control
  • Blend samples for bench and customer testing
  • Conduct performance and physical/chemical property testing on new and existing products
  • Conduct routine used oil analysis on customer fluids
  • Document test results
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned by senior laboratory staff
