About The Position

The Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for the performance of laboratory activities for the Biospecimen Repository Core Facility (BRCF) for cancer research. This includes performing activities of specimen processing, sample storage, and sample distribution. This also includes overseeing activities related to quality assurance and regulatory standards. Will interface with investigators regarding samples and sample distribution. This position reports directly to the Laboratory Manager of the BRCF. The BioBank at The University of Kansas Cancer Center supports cancer research by serving as a bank for human tissues and fluids, called biospecimens. Biospecimens are small amounts of blood, urine , stool or tissue used for medical research. Researchers use biospecimens and medical information from participants to study how genes, lifestyle and our environment may lead to cancer. The BioBank serves as a valuable resource for researchers at The University of Kansas Cancer Center and potentially around the world. The University of Kansas Cancer Center is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center where patients gain access to the most promising therapies, cutting-edge clinical trials and world class research

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or other science related area.

Responsibilities

  • Process specimens under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, including those collected for the repository or on behalf of other investigators and clinical trials, in accordance with all applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform specimen banking for long-term storage for the repository or other investigators, ensuring compliance with established SOPs.
  • Distribute samples as assigned.
  • Follow the laboratory’s quality assurance plan to ensure accurate execution of laboratory processes, including daily quality control activities.
  • Adhere to all laboratory standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in reviewing SOP’s for accuracy on an annual basis.
