About The Position

Working directly under the supervision of the Histology Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting the Histotechnologists, Cytotechnologists, and Pathologists by performing routine tasks in the laboratory, such as receiving, accessioning, and processing the pathologic specimens arriving at our pathology laboratory. Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of one-year relevant experience as a Laboratory Assistant with Clinical lab/histology experience desired.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-motivation, reliability, and accountability in meeting timelines.
  • Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service/relations skills.
  • Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region.
  • Regularly required to sit 4-7 hours/day and stand 1-3 hours/day.
  • Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen.
  • Sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work that changes in distance from eyes.
  • Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers.
  • Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or higher degree preferred.
  • Clinical lab/histology experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Accession and gross surgical tissues for processing and eventual microscopic evaluation.
  • Load the tissue blocks on the processor.
  • Perform H & E and Papanicolaou staining and cover slip all surgical and cytologic specimen slides.
  • Organize cases by matching slides with paperwork and laying slides out in slide folders.
  • Prepare cytology slides using techniques and guidelines established by our laboratory.
  • Keep supplies fully stocked.
  • Organize and label slides/paperwork and keep records of tests.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste and change solutions appropriately.
  • Perform other laboratory and office duties as assigned by the manager.
