About The Position

Position Summary: To perform clerical and specimen processing duties at the front desk. To understand and use the Laboratory computer system appropriately. To interact effectively with persons such as nursing staff, medical staff, laboratory staff, patients, visitors, etc. To organize work priorities so that all work is done in an appropriate time frame. To judge the adequacy of patient identification and to request proper patient identification when necessary. To interrupt routine collection duties to perform STAT or timed collection requests. To notify the Lab Coordinator or a supervisor when the workload demand require additional personnel. To inform the Lab Coordinator or a supervisor whenever discrepancies exist between laboratory policy and requests or instructions from nursing or physicians. To collect blood specimens from appropriate patients using appropriate techniques. Able to obtain blood from patients of all age groups. To perform charges and credits so that patients are charged appropriately. To chart patient results in a timely manner on the permanent record. To identify, research and follow up on any discrepancies in charting. To oversee trainees in work activities. Position Qualification: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. One year experience in an acute care facility preferred. Basic computer skills required. Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS Required.
