POSITION PURPOSE: Provides guidance to management on employment issues that arise in the workplace by interpreting, applying, and administering Collective Bargaining Agreements, Company Policies, and state and federal labor and employment laws. Works extensively with labor unions to resolve issues, problems and concerns arising out the labor/management arena. Coordinates and/or conducts internal investigations and handles grievances under the direction of Labor Relations Director or Labor Relations Vice President, answers questions, resolves problems and serves as facilitator to reach resolution.

Requirements

  • Supply and distribution experience is preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with a unionized work force is required.
  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-8 plus years Labor Relations experience with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts, practices, and procedures have been developed.
  • 10 plus years of business-related experience.
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and facilitation skills to speak effectively and persuasively on issues and lead focus groups.
  • Strong mediation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to independently conduct research and prepare materials for presentations.
  • Under minimal supervision applies a broad knowledge to respond to the difficult HR/LR issues.
  • Must have own transportation and be available for overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Advises Distribution management on discipline and policy interpretation regarding all actions affecting pay, demotions, disciplinary transfers, last and final warnings and other related actions for unionized associates.
  • Works directly with labor unions to coordinate and participate in the resolution of grievances, issues, and bargaining.
  • Conducts research and prepares required analysis, reports, and documentation for grievance meetings, information requests, general communication issues with unions.
  • Investigates and resolves associate complaints within company policy, procedures and union contracts.
  • Works with management and associates to implement ADA and other legally required accommodations and facilitate associate placement.
  • Responds to leave of absence issues, conducting research and determining best course of action within guidelines.
  • Coordinates investigations of grievances, EEO (sexual harassment, unlawful discrimination), wage & hour, hotline (associate relations) and evaluates Loss Prevention’s investigative report and resolves or makes recommendation to management and HR/LR Leads.
  • Provides assistance in contract negotiations by conducting research, compiling information and documentation, and providing advice and insight on trends to be addressed with union.
  • Develops resolution on labor relations issues within company policy and/or union contract.
