About The Position

The Labor Relations Director is responsible for and a key participant in the development and implementation of industry-specific and comprehensive HR policies and programs, management of union/management relationships, collective bargaining, and union avoidance for certain business units within the Company as part of the Shared Services Team. This position will evaluate applicable laws and regulations, sit first chair in collective bargaining, provide guidance and advice on contract compliance, manage and prepare arbitrations, while serving as a business partner to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of seven years of related experience in labor relations and/or union management experience or equivalent combination of education and/or HR senior leadership experience.
  • Detail oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to operate at all levels of the organization.
  • Service-oriented with demonstrated abilities to be a strategic business partner.
  • Analytical and disciplined with strong costing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Possesses an advanced level of ability to comprehend, review, and implement regulatory HR requirements.
  • Must be able to work in manufacturing and other operations facilities, work irregular hours and travel 50-70% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of key HR policies and procedures in partnership with other key HR leaders for assigned business units.
  • Provide leadership and support to internal HR managers and directors and operations leaders related to contract interpretation, discipline and discharge, grievance and arbitration, unfair labor practice charges, general labor/management relations, positive team member relations, workplace investigations, training, and wage and hour policies and programs.
  • Provide comprehensive guidance related to new and existing laws, regulations, policies, and industry standards.
  • Facilitates responses to alleged violations of federal, state, or local laws and regulations, as well as alleged noncompliance of company policies and procedures.
  • Serve as key member in the development and execution of the company’s labor strategy.
  • Lead collective bargaining as the chief negotiator for 20+ CBAs covering 20,000+ employees throughout the United States.
  • Key contact with International and Local Union representatives.
  • Provide training to field HR personnel in all areas of labor and employee relations and HR best practices.
  • Create and maintain databases on competitor wages and benefits, CBAs, Union leadership, LM2 data and key company data/policies.
  • Monitors, tracks, and reports out on economic and industry trends and local/state/regional/national wage and employment conditions.
  • Lead in the formulation of bargaining objectives and goals.
  • Build and analyze costing models for negotiation of labor agreements.
  • Support and develop positive employee relations programs in union and non-union facilities.
  • Align labor relations strategies with overall company objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Base salary range of $130,000 - $180,000
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program
