About The Position

As one of the largest Clinical Research Organizations in the world, Fortrea has four Early Phase Clinical Research Units in the UK and US. They are seeking a Lab Technician to coordinate and ensure procedures for handling and processing. This full-time, office-based position in Madison, WI offers an exciting opportunity to expand knowledge and experience in clinical research. The role involves working with leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies in the vital stage of clinical development, focusing on establishing the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of new drugs. Technicians in this role will have a close face-to-face relationship with participants in Phase 1 trials, practice clinical skills and knowledge, and be involved with the latest medical technologies and treatments, witnessing their development firsthand. The work directly impacts patient care globally by contributing to the approval of new drugs.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent.
  • 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • English written and oral communication required
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where no deviations from the study protocol are allowed, and not meeting a timeline for even few minutes will create a quality issue.
  • Comfortable working in an environment with constantly changing priorities, requiring prioritization and adaptation on the spot.
  • Possess teamwork and people skills essential for the study to run smoothly.
  • Comfortable working in a technology-based environment where data is collected directly into an electronic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous clinical experience is ideal, but not a must.
  • Recent graduates or any recent clinical experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize your skills, knowledge, and clinical judgement to provide a high standard of care for participants in clinical trials and respond to emergency situations based upon clinical research standards.
  • Follows the laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Operates laboratory equipment.
  • Recognizes deviations from expected results and follows up appropriately.
  • Processes and ships PK samples according to study specific instructions.
  • Performs phlebotomy as needed.
  • Participates in the collection of biological specimens.
  • Evaluates and solves problems related to the collection and processing of specimens.
  • Facilitates the work flow through the laboratory to ensure completion of processing in a timely manner.
  • Operates and utilizes all communications systems available in the laboratory; telephones, copiers, facsimile machines and pagers.
  • Maintains and cleans laboratory equipment.
  • Inventories reagents and supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Handles hazardous materials, reagents and chemicals in a safe manner in accordance to laboratory policy and procedure.
  • Washes laboratory glassware and maintains general laboratory cleanliness.
  • Completes special projects.
  • Supports and participates in Corporate and Department initiatives regarding quality system implementation, maintenance, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • And all other duties assigned.
