The Lab Administrator is responsible for coordinating lab activities and providing day-to-day administration of the laboratory. Key duties include performing regular process audits on laboratory staff, following procedures for specimen handling and processing, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, and recognizing and addressing deviations from expected results. The role involves processing and shipping PK samples, performing phlebotomy as needed, and participating in biological specimen collection. The administrator evaluates and solves problems related to specimen collection and processing, facilitates workflow to ensure timely completion for all assigned studies, and manages inventory and orders supplies. They attend initiation meetings, assist with staff orientation and training, and work with management to establish operational standards, policies, and guidelines. The position supports corporate and department initiatives for quality system implementation and continuous improvement, and may act as an initial contact for new equipment, writing and performing acceptance tests. They initiate and monitor the quality of laboratory procedures, ensure compliance with current legislation and practices (including COSHH and Radiological Protection), and maintain full and accurate data records. The administrator ensures the quality of service meets client requirements, instills a commitment to quality in team members, and works with study teams to follow protocol specifications. They also collaborate with management to maintain a safe working environment and continuously seek out new and better ideas.
