Using sophisticated laboratory equipment, Lab Technicians look for bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, match blood for transfusions, analyze the chemical content of body fluids, and test for drug levels in the blood (to show how a patient is responding to treatment). They also count cells and look for abnormal cells in blood and body fluids. They use microscopes, cell counters, automated equipment and computerized analyzers in the clinical laboratory area. The laboratory findings are then conveyed to the physician. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 2:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. no weekends or holidays.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• One year of lab experience

Nice To Haves

• Associate's Degree (or equivalent credit hours) will substitute for up to one year of experience

Responsibilities

• Receive and accession laboratory specimens into the LIS.
• Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens.
• Perform specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems.
• Verify accurate documentation relative to specimen processing.
• Maintain patient, specimen and track data using the laboratory computer system, tracking and software/devices.
• Prepare specimens for analysis and accept or reject specimens.
• Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance).
