About The Position

Hematology Oncology Associates of CNY (HOACNY), voted one of Central New York’s Best Places to Work, is looking for a full time Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our professional team. HOACNY provides cancer care services, Monday through Friday, day hours at three convenient locations in East Syracuse, Syracuse and Auburn. Assumes a managerial role for operational workflow, team members, programming and special projects within the Lab. Responsible for fair, equitable and consistent supervision and leadership of a diverse staff; including departmental hiring, training, mentoring, conflict resolution, disciplining and terminating employees, as necessary. Responsible for ensuring efficient workflow; including work schedules, assignments, coverage and daily operations at multiple locations, while maintaining the highest quality of standards. Responsible for working in conjunction with other HOA departments to ensure efforts are coordinated, of the highest quality and for the good of the whole organization. Responsible for the development, maintenance and implementation of departmental policies and procedures that are understandable and transparent. Responsible for the identification, analysis and timely resolution of operational issues. Responsible for actively managing a cost containment program and working for constant improvement of workflow processes, care and/or services. Responsible for maintaining current knowledge base within the medical/lab industry, including laws, regulations, and health care trends and practices. Responsible for reviewing departmental performance and ensuring compliance with accreditation, legal and other regulatory requirements; ensuring applicable QC/QA and other appropriate procedures are performed and documented in compliance with CLIA, COLA, OSHA and other applicable regulatory bodies. Requirements

  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and practices to evaluate department and recommend improvement.
  • Knowledge of laboratory standards to monitor and evaluate work of technologists.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and to determine needs and evaluate equipment for purchase.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to interact with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and to recognize and correct hazardous conditions.
  • Knowledge of medical industry, laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
  • Skill in performing in full range laboratory tests.
  • Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
  • Skill in providing guidance and instruction to staff.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, delegating and supervising.
  • Skill in evaluating the effectiveness of existing methods and procedures.
  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives.

  • BS degree plus certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP)
  • Ten years of experience as a medical technologist including four years supervisory experience which includes administrative and budgetary responsibilities
