About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is seeking a Lab Assistant to join their team. This role involves ordering, collecting, and processing routine and specialty testing, and returning results to providers. Key responsibilities include accurate and timely data entry, scanning, and faxing, as well as providing excellent customer service to patients, doctors, and medical staff. The Lab Assistant must be able to work under pressure, ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling, and perform procedures such as EKGs, IV starts, IRTs, and therapeutic phlebotomies. Adherence to all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures, including CLIA waived testing, is required. The position demands the ability to troubleshoot, prioritize specimens (STAT, ASAP, Routine, Pre-op), multitask, and be flexible to meet laboratory needs. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or higher.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with computers and office equipment, required.
  • Must be able to read and communicate (oral and written) effectively in English.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • General Math skills
  • Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments.
  • Must be organized, multi-tasker, and a critical thinker
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to work well with others.
  • Be a team player and flexible.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy course or phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to laboratory.
  • Knowledge of ordering, stocking and rotating laboratory supplies.
  • Ensure that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient’s expectation.
  • Adherence by staff to all policies and procedures to include the employee handbook.
  • Provides age appropriate care.
  • Reporting, monitoring, and management of patient and staff incidents.
  • Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.
  • Comply with standard precautions by using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Develop, utilize, and maintain professional relationships within our organization and its affiliates.
  • Maintain effective working relationships between nursing, clerical, medical and allied health staff.
  • Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
  • Organize requisitions received for collection, Maintains records of tests performed Scanning orders and lab results into electronic medical system, print and fax lab reports to ordering doctor.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Shows excellent customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary
