We are seeking an experienced Lab Analyst II to join our Houston, TX laboratory, supporting high-impact crude assay and petroleum testing operations. In this role, you’ll play a key role in crude oil assay operations, performing ASTM-based testing and atmospheric and vacuum distillation, including work with TAPS (Trans-Alaska Pipeline System) crude streams. You’ll operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, ensuring precise data capture and reporting in LIMS, while actively supporting quality initiatives through data review and identification of out-of-specification results. This position plays a vital role in sustaining crude assay operations and delivering high-quality data that powers operational performance and drives client success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline; equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of degree
  • 1–2 years of experience with crude assay and/or distillation processes required, including ASTM D2892 and/or D5236
  • Proven hands-on analytical laboratory experience in petroleum, crude oil, hydrocarbon, or oil & gas environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with TAPS (Trans-Alaska Pipeline System) crude streams strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform crude oil assay testing in accordance with established methods and internal procedures
  • Conduct atmospheric and vacuum distillation using ASTM D2892 and/or D5236
  • Support and sustain TAPS (Trans-Alaska Pipeline System) crude assay processes
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment
  • Document, validate, review, and report analytical results in LIMS, including identification of out-of-specification (OOS) conditions
  • Support quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain proper sample handling, labeling, and chain of custody procedures
  • Assist with general laboratory operations, including inventory, housekeeping, and cross-training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
