About The Position

This worksite is designed for high performing, motivated youth leaders who are committed to excellence, community service, and personal growth. Youth will build communication and leadership skills, learn the foundations of health education, community engagement, and project support, and assist in real-world service activities. Learning objectives include demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, responsibility, public speaking growth, and developing a small portfolio of completed community service work. An interview is required to be selected for this site.

Requirements

  • Applicants should demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills, strong leadership potential, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • They must show high motivation, responsibility, and integrity; follow instructions; maintain focus; show respect for peers, staff, and community members; and complete tasks without disruption or behavior that violates any MAC policies.
  • Ideal candidates exhibit consistent professional behavior with no disciplinary concerns.
  • Youth workers should be willing to try new things, embrace professional development opportunities, and follow a business-casual dress code.
  • Youth employees must be able to participate safely in program activities with or without reasonable accommodation. This may include sitting, standing, walking, and helping set up or break down materials for events (lifting up to 20 pounds). Because this is a workplace training environment, employees are expected to arrive ready to work, remain alert and engaged, follow all safety instructions, and maintain appropriate physical and verbal boundaries with staff and peers. Sleeping during program hours, substance use or possession, vaping, profanity, bullying, and any behavior that compromises Safety, respect, or learning are not permitted. All employees must strictly adhere to all Metro Action Commission (MAC) behavior and conduct requirements. Accommodation will be provided as needed in accordance with MAC policies.

  • Candidates should also be detail-oriented, goal-oriented and interested in community service, community development, leadership, youth engagement, public speaking, fundraising, event planning, teaching and training, or basic app/website development.
  • Youth who are curious about health careers, public health, public speaking, social media, community health education, leadership development, entrepreneurship, or nonprofit management will excel in this job.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in leadership, communication, community health, and work-readiness training Learn health education modules and help teach information to peers and community members (train-the-trainer model).
  • Assist in planning and implementing community service projects, health fairs, and outreach activities.
  • Support event setup and breakdown, including organizing materials, distributing resources, and guiding participants.
  • Help create youth-friendly educational materials, simple digital content, or basic website/app updates under supervision.
  • Engage in Public Speaking Practice, group facilitation, and community presentations.
  • Work independently and in teams to complete weekly assignments, project tasks, and service goals.
  • Maintain professionalism, maturity, and respect for peers, staff, and community partners.
  • Arrive on time, stay engaged, follow instructions, complete tasks on schedule, and represent the KYB Leadership Academy with integrity.
  • Smile, have fun, and enjoy the Power Youth program. Uphold safety standards, MAC policies, and all behavior expectations. Participate in a required interview and be selected based on professionalism, communication, readiness, and leadership potential. Applicants will be selected based on professionalism, communication skills, and demonstrated interest in leadership development.
