About The Position

The Kitchen Manager supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Kitchen Manager at the YMCA of Northern Utah maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. Must be a self-starter and also be able to follow directions. As with all food related jobs, you must be detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Kitchen staff must be friendly and able to greet children and parents. This person will regularly interact with the children, so an interest in working with children is key to liking the job. Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • State Food Handlers permit required
  • Ability to work within a budget and purchase supplies efficiently.
  • Knowledge of and experience in food service: ordering, inventory, budgeting, food preparation, family-style serving, buffet serving, cleaning, and institutional kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods.
  • Knowledge of safely and properly using kitchen equipment.
  • Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.
  • CPR, First Aid certifications required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children is preferred
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Responsibilities

  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
  • Cook food in various utensils or grillers
  • Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
  • Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  • Check quality of ingredients
  • Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages
  • Create and develop a healthy menu that caters to the needs of students.
  • Ensures food orders are accurate and made in a timely manner.
  • Maintains the health departments requirements to ensure a safe and clean area.
  • Role model YMCA’s professional standards.
  • Responsible for overseeing all CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) documentation, including accurate recordkeeping, compliance reporting, and timely submission of required forms to meet state and federal guidelines.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
  • Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth and staff; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
