The Head Chef / Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, creating high-quality menus, and leading a team to ensure timely and consistent food service during events. This role requires strong culinary skills, leadership experience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Manager in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent culinary skills with a focus on quality, presentation, and consistency.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during live events.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and execute menus that reflect the Van Buren brand and meet guest expectations.
  • Manage all kitchen operations, including prep, cooking, plating, and cleanup.
  • Hire, train, and supervise kitchen staff, providing coaching and performance feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Monitor inventory, place orders, and manage food costs to meet budgetary goals.
  • Collaborate with event and operations teams to coordinate food service for concerts, private events, and special functions.
  • Maintain a positive, productive, and safe work environment in the kitchen.
  • Handle scheduling, staffing, and daily operational challenges efficiently.
