About The Position

JAX Mercantile is looking for a hands-on Department Manager for our Kitchen & Gift Department, which also oversees our coffee bar. Join our local, family-owned company and lead a team welcoming our customers with a comforting drink and a wide selection of products to help make a cozy home or give unique and beautiful gifts! Our Department Manager is responsible for providing outstanding customer service. The role supports overall department operations by providing employee orientation and development, scheduling coverage, managing performance, leading by example when assisting customers and finding ways to improve the service provided by JAX. Duties include coordinating with the buyers team to provide feedback on products, visual merchandising with product displays, managing inventory, stocking, and organizing the department. Additional tasks include: Creating schedules two weeks in advance Ensuring coverage by working with employees or stepping up fill gaps when necessary Providing honest and informative answers about our products Addressing loss prevention concerns Participating in inventory responsibilities Assembling new stock Maintaining a clean and well-stocked area Complete record-keeping and creating reports Completing special orders Coordinating with others to plan for sales and promotions Ensuring proper documentation and pricing of products Working to engage and inspire teamwork with department employees Our ideal candidate is experienced in retail management, is willing to pitch-in and help, is well-organized, takes initiative, communicates well, and has an engaging and positive approach to customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior top-notch customer service experience
  • Prior retail lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Interest, knowledge, or experience in a coffee bar or cafe is preferred
  • Serve safe certification or previous food industry experience helpful
  • Merchandising experience or training preferred
  • Comfort and adaptability with learning new technology or computer systems
