About The Position

The Kitchen Captain supports daily operations in a high-volume kitchen, ensuring that food is prepared correctly, safety and sanitation standards are met, and the team works efficiently. This role involves hands-on food preparation while also coaching and assisting staff to maintain consistency and quality. Working closely with the Chef De Cuisine and Sous Chef, the Kitchen Captain helps foster a safe, efficient, and positive kitchen environment, stepping in as needed to support the team

Requirements

  • 18+ years of age
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a kitchen environment
  • Proficiency in operating and handling kitchen equipment
  • Expertise in food preparation, plating techniques, and presentation standards
  • Passionate about serving others
  • Able to adapt to changing kitchen demands, including fluctuating volume and last-minute changes to menus or orders
  • Strong decision-making abilities to ensure efficient kitchen operations
  • Able to communicate effectively in English
  • Must have reliable form of transportation and be able to work flexible shifts, inclusive of weekends, days, late nights, and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Culinary Arts degree or relevant culinary training
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Previous experience with chill blasters

Responsibilities

  • Follow established steps of service to oversee kitchen operations
  • Able to work independently while maintaining clear communication and collaborating effectively with team members
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt to feedback, and comply with all company policies and safety regulations
  • Prepare menu items according to plate presentation specifications, ensuring consistency in portion sizes, presentation, and cleanliness
  • Assist with expediting and plating during peak service times
  • Clean kitchen appliances and equipment before the end of each shift
  • Assist with unloading and storing deliveries
  • Actively assist hourly team members throughout the shift and coach them to ensure the highest level of guest experience and adherence to service standards
  • May assist the department manager with select tasks related to onboarding and training hourly team members
  • Assist in performing the duties of a Dishwasher, Line Attendant, and Prep Cook when needed
  • Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by any manager or VP of Operations based on business needs
