About The Position

Assist Chef or Cook in the preparation, serving and cleaning up after (lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday), and cleans up afterwards, for priests and others as well as for special events and dinners. Special events include several banquets a year for our benefactors, with visiting groups of up to 50 guests and meals for the Cardinal and Bishops once a month and during their annual 8-day retreat (this would include lunch and dinner on the weekend days during this one annual event). The number of guests for weekday meals varies according to the number of priests who are visiting on a given day. Serves lunch is served at 12pm - 2pm and dinner at 5:30pm -7pm.

Requirements

  • Any combination of experience and education likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Fair command of English language to be able to understand and follow instructions and safety rules.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and serving.
  • Knowledge of Kitchen hygiene standards.
  • Skill in Cleaning techniques using commercial strength cleaners.
  • Skill in Reading and following recipes written in English.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
  • Frequently lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Perform tasks requiring frequent reaching, bending and stooping.
  • Stand and walk for sustained periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Stores foods properly to ensure freshness.
  • Prepares, cooks and serves lunches and dinners including home-made soups, fresh salads, main courses (meats, fish, fresh vegetables, no pre-packaged items), sandwiches, desserts and other items; prepares snacks as needed.
  • Sets the table and serves food onto platters and places food on the serving tables; clears dishes from the serving tables.
  • Provides beverages as required.
  • Washes / cleans kitchen equipment, surfaces, floors, walls, carts, and storage areas; maintains dining room in clean, tidy and attractive fashion.
  • Ensures proper standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained in the kitchen, checking that food is stored at the required temperatures (i.e., cold food is frozen or refrigerated, hot food is maintained at proper heat levels).
