Applying the principles of best practices in child welfare, the FCCS MCE Kinship Coordinator’s main responsibilities include assisting in the approval of kinship home studies for potential out-of-home placements of children involved with the child welfare system. This position coordinates support services for kinship families. This will be done in a professional manner, valuing every child, honoring families, and valuing partnerships in alignment with The Village Network’s Mission, Vision and Core Values.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a human services related field (e.g., social work, psychology, or related area) or have an LSW, LPC, or other professional mental/behavioral health licensure/certificate (preferred).
• Willingness to obtain and/or maintain an adoption assessor certification.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and time management skills.
• Background or experience in one or more of the following areas: family systems, community systems and resources, case management, child and family counseling or therapy, child protection, or child development is preferred.
• Be culturally competent or responsive with training and experience necessary to manage complex cases and ensures the ability to work respectfully and effectively with people of all cultures, classes, races, genders, ethnic backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations, mental and physical abilities, ages and appearances in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values the worth of individuals, families and communities and protects and preserves the dignity of each.
• Ability to use a computer; proficiency in Word and case documentation (familiarity with SACWIS preferred)
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License and maintains a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable with the insurance company providing The Village Network with vehicle insurance.
• Willingness to travel throughout Franklin County and the surrounding areas and work occasional evening/weekend hours to meet client needs.
• Ability to visit clients’ homes (may or may not be handicap accessible).
• Ability to manage bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, reaching, and walking for periods of time.
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds independently

Responsibilities

• Complete kinship home studies (including fingerprinting, interviews, home visits, reviewing financial records and criminal records) and issues approvals or denials of relative and non-relative kinship provider homes as requested by the Family Engagement Coordinator teams
• Enter home studies, case notes, and payment subsidies into the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS)
• Complete monthly home visits with assigned kinship families and document visits
• Complete referrals for community services as necessary, including assisting families with applying for additional benefits and obtaining copies of birth certificates and identifying documents
• Provide court testimony as required
• Participate in the semi-annual review process as required
• Collaborate with the family’s service team to identify barriers to approved placements and work with kinship families to remedy those barriers
• Participate in the agency’s emergency, on-call response on a rotating schedule
• Complete the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program Caseworker CORE series, Adoption Assessor series, and participate in 36 hours of ongoing training yearly
• Other duties as assigned
