About The Position

The Office of Academic Writing is seeking a graduate to join the team as the Kim Frank Multilingual Writing Fellow for the 2026–2027 academic year. The focus of this position is to support and encourage the multilingual community at the Wesleyan Writers Room as well as the rest of the campus. This includes a variety of tasks such as project management, leading workshops and seminars, public relations, creating educational materials, and collaborating with other departments. The Multilingual Writing Fellowship is a one-year post-graduate position open to graduating Wesleyan students and Wesleyan alumni. The fellow will work closely with the Associate Professor of the Practice in TESOL and Education Studies. They will also work with the Director and Assistant Director of Academic Writing and the Ford Fellow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one language in addition to English
  • Demonstrated writing proficiency and creativity
  • Demonstrated interest in event planning and education
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Effective critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
  • Consideration for this role is limited to a graduating Wesleyan Student or Wesleyan alumnus/alumna.

Responsibilities

  • Writing Tutoring and Mentoring: The fellow will support the Writers Room through five hours of tutoring and mentoring undergraduate students plus additional hours for graduate students.
  • Supporting the Writers Room Tutors: The fellow will lead training sessions, such as the Multilingual Specialist Training and sessions of the Ford Seminar, for the writing tutors. They will also be available to advise tutors on multilingual tutoring.
  • Supporting Multilingual Students at Wesleyan: In addition to tutoring and mentoring, the fellow will work closely with other departments, such as the Office of International Student Affairs and the Resource Center, to offer orientation sessions, academic writing sessions, events, write-ins, and other forms of support for multilingual students.
  • Emulsify: Emulsify is the only multilingual (not bilingual) publication for Wesleyan students. The fellow will lead/participate in the Emulsify Committee, update the Emulsify webpage, support events to publicize submissions and the latest issue, and keep consistency in the publications standards and production.
  • Collaborating with the Ford Fellow: In the beginning of the semester the fellow will collaborate with the Ford Fellow to train undergraduate tutors to better support multilingual writers. Fellows should collaborate to build the Ford Seminar syllabus and co-lead meetings.
  • Community Tutoring: The fellow will support the Prof. of the Practice in TESOL with administration, working with partners, matching tutors, and training.
  • The Wesleyan community: Based on their interests and abilities, the fellow will work with other departments and offices, including the Fellowships Office, the Office of Graduate Studies, and The Fries Center for Global Studies, to lead/create their own events as well as support other departments’ events. As an example, this fellow will create/lead events for both International Education Week and the Power of Language, which happen every year.
