About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Manager of Camps, Art, and Kids Club, the Kids Club Counselor is responsible for ensuring the safety, supervision, and positive experience of all Kids Club participants. The Counselor coordinates and supervises the Before and After School Program, fostering an environment that supports the individual growth and development of each participant.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old or older.
  • Previous experience working with children or in recreation programming.
  • Must be available to work from 6:45–9:30 AM and 2:30–6:30 PM, Monday through Friday, during the school year.
  • Must have First Aid/CPR/ AED certification or be willing to obtain it within one month of hire.
  • All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the philosophy of public recreation, with the ability to effectively communicate this to others.
  • Proven technical expertise in the specific content and responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to plan and provide age-appropriate interactions and activities for children in grades K–6.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and adhere to scheduled hours; notify the Program Manager of illness at least 3 hours before the start of the program, when possible.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance, work cooperatively with all staff members, attend scheduled staff meetings, and report any child or program management issues to the Program Manager.
  • Follow all personnel and safety policies of the Glencoe Park District.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering daily activities for the program, including but not limited to passive play, homework time, free play, and structured group games.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized physical environment that supports the optimal growth and development of children in the program.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and collaborative relationship between Glencoe School District 35 and the Glencoe Park District.
  • Support and engage with parents by encouraging involvement and maintaining open, honest, and respectful communication, using tact, discretion, and sensitivity.
  • Promote and supervise activities that foster each child's healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development.
  • Maintain a neat and organized program area, taking responsibility for the care and upkeep of all equipment and materials.
  • Closely supervise all activities to ensure the safety and well-being of each child at all times.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of after-school snacks.
  • Support children with self-care routines as needed.
  • Work additional hours as necessary to support program needs.
  • Obtain prior authorization from the Program Manager before taking time off, except in the event of illness.
  • Obtain prior authorization from the Program Manager before securing a substitute, except in the event of illness.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
