About The Position

The Kentucky Horse Park is seeking qualified applicants for the position of KHP Event Supervisor. The chosen candidate’s primary responsibility will be as manager of the Park’s Special Event Section. This Supervisor will be responsible for the special events that are scheduled at Kentucky Horse Park as well as the event coordinators who are assigned to the event section. Located within minutes of downtown Lexington, KY, Kentucky Horse Park is a 1,224-acre working horse farm, equine theme park, and internationally renowned equine competition facility. Founded in 1978, the Park is owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and attracts over 1 million visitors from around the world annually. The Park includes a 260-site campground, the Alltech and Rolex arenas, the International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian affiliate, and much more. The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of event management, both horse shows and non-equestrian events. Professional leadership and the ability to communicate and work with others as a team are key.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of experience in business or administration, of which one year must have been in scheduling and coordinating shows and events.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): If employed at Kentucky Horse Park must be twenty years and one day of age at time of appointment. You must obtain S.T.A.R. (Server Training in Alcohol Regulations) certification from the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control within six months of appointment. Must maintain a valid driver’s license, certifications(s) or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • QuickBooks experience is a plus
  • Must be able to multi-task and solve complex issues quickly and effectively
  • Must be able to work effectively with other departments
  • Experience in the horse industry

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate with current and potential clients regarding event needs
  • Supervise event staff by creating schedules, evaluating, identifying training opportunities and mentoring
  • Ensuring client needs are met by coordinating needs with event and other park staff
  • Physically working events; typically, nights and weekends
  • Create accurate billing information for approval
  • Responsible for all purchases within the events section following state procurement guidelines
  • Provide detailed plans and solutions related to facilities, personnel, and policies within the section
  • Other duties as assigned
