About The Position

The Key Account Manager (KAM) is a critical field-based commercial role supporting the continued growth of Neurotech’s successful 2025 product launch into retina/ophthalmology. This position is designed to deepen engagement within strategically important retina accounts and surgical centers, ensuring excellence in adoption, execution, and long-term partnership.  This is a customer-facing sales role responsible for demand generation and extensive account management. The KAM will be responsible for driving demand and sustained utilization of a surgically implanted, cell-based gene therapy across retina specialists, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), and academic ophthalmology institutions. This role requires strong clinical credibility, a high level of account ownership, and comfort navigating complex buy-and-bill and surgical workflows in an entrepreneurial biotech environment; addressing the unmet needs of an orphan-classified disease state, MacTel Type 2. This position will report directly to an Area Sales Director and will work compliantly and in close partnership with Surgical Application Specialists, Field Reimbursement, Market Access, and Medical Affairs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in ophthalmology related pharmaceutical or surgical sales.
  • Retina or ophthalmology-focused sales experience REQUIRED.
  • Proven success managing complex accounts or specialty therapies.
  • Strong ability to work independently with a high level of ownership and accountability.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within assigned territory.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct exposure or experience to ophthalmic or retinal surgical environments.
  • Proven success navigating and on-boarding Sites-of-Care (Ambulatory Surgery Center, Hospital, Academic Institution).
  • Experience with buy-and-bill products or specialty pharmacy procurement models.
  • Rare disease, gene therapy, cell therapy, or early-stage product launch experience.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and contributing to process-building in a startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own a defined territory of high-value retina accounts, including private practices, academic centers, and surgical sites.  MacTel Type 2 is an orphan-classified disease; territories are large, often multi-state.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive account plans that drive adoption, utilization growth, and long-term partnership.
  • Identify, prioritize, and activate new surgical centers and early-adopter accounts within the territory.
  • Build deep, trusted relationships with retina surgeons, administrators, surgical coordinators, and integrated care teams.
  • Execute launch and post-launch strategies for an orphan-classified retinal disease where depth of engagement is critical.
  • Translate regional and national strategy into precise, account-level execution plans.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for physicians and staff throughout the adoption journey, including surgical training and surgical case support
  • Demonstrate strong clinical acumen and comfort discussing disease state education, clinical data, surgical workflows, surgical training, and procedural planning.
  • Partner closely with Surgical Application Specialists and Field Reimbursement to support case scheduling, provide surgical training, and insure procedural readiness.
  • Be present and effective in clinical and surgical discussions and the surgical/OR environment to support early experience.
  • Navigate complex buy-and-bill dynamics within a site of care
  • Collaborate with Field Reimbursement, Market Access, and Patient Services to compliantly support efficient patient access and practice workflows.
  • Proactively identify and address workflow or operational barriers within accounts.
  • Work closely with Field Reimbursement, Surgical Application Specialists, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Trade/Distribution, Strategic Account team, Professional Education, and Commercial partners to ensure seamless execution.
  • Provide timely, high-quality field insights and feedback to leadership to inform strategy refinement.
  • Operate with a strong compliance mindset while maintaining agility and urgency.
