About The Position

The Kings County Area Public Transit Agency (KCAPTA) is seeking a Custodial and Maintenance Worker to help maintain KART bus stops and facilities across the County. This position performs a variety of maintenance, cleaning, and landscaping tasks to ensure safe, clean, and welcoming transit areas for the community. Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Six months of maintenance, janitorial or landscaping experience.
  • Possession of a valid, appropriate California driver's license.
  • Ability to 1) perform manual labor including the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 45 pounds for distances up to 50 feet; 2) work a flexible work week schedule, including weekends as assigned; may be assigned a regular, rotating and/or seasonal schedule as required; 3) qualify for deputization by the Kings County Sheriff's Office, including background/fingerprint check and demonstrate a satisfactory driving record; a current, valid DMV printout is required prior to appointment to the position. (Candidates receiving a conditional offer of employment are required to submit to pre-employment drug testing before employment can be confirmed.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of cleaning and pesticide chemicals, hand tools, and power tools including, but not limited to, handheld leaf blower, weed eater and high pressure washers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts routine inspections and preventative maintenance duties to bus shelters, benches, signs, trash receptacles, boarding area, adjacent sidewalks and facilities; notifies appropriate individuals of required facility and/or equipment repairs, including damages and potential safety hazards
  • Removes litter and debris from areas within five (5) feet of bus shelter and/or bench; performs removal of graffiti, spilled liquids/food, gum and stickers
  • Operates power and hand tools including handheld leaf blower, weed eater and high pressure washers; cleans glass and solar panels
  • Cleans, empties and replaces plastic liners for trash receptacles; maintains landscaped areas by removing weeds in flower beds, raking leaves and trimming bushes and trees
  • Sprays premixed chemical pesticides purchased at local hardware stores to landscaped areas and soil for the control and eradication of weeds; uses personal protective equipment as needed
  • Cleans and disinfects public restrooms at assigned locations; cleans and disinfects public areas when an infectious and/or unsanitary condition has been reported; cleans, sweeps, vacuums, dusts indoor office spaces
  • Lifts, carries and pushes heavy materials and/or equipment to proper locations; works at heights on ladders to clean roof gutters, solar panels and bus shelters
  • Assists with projects for the purpose of completing projects in a safe, efficient manner; performs minor repairs and assists in light construction of transit signage and bench installation
  • Maintains equipment and tools; provides information to the public and operates in a courteous manner, enabling customers to effectively use KART's services
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers and other County employees using principles of good customer service
  • Operates company vehicle in a safe manner pursuant to all company safety protocols and California law
  • Performs other duties as assigned
