The K-8 Teacher - PE Teacher is responsible for promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of any student assigned. This role involves using available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to provide opportunities for student achievement and development, demonstrating knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children, and maintaining accurate records including class lists, attendance, health records, roll book, report cards, and permanent folders. The teacher is expected to maintain an attractive classroom, report unsafe conditions, develop and implement proper classroom management techniques, and complete reports, assignments, and records in a timely fashion. Other duties include collecting monies as necessary, planning and preparing for classes with weekly lesson plans, and reporting regularly and punctually to assigned work locations and duties. The position requires notifying the principal of absences, supplying substitutes with adequate plans, maintaining assigned books and equipment, and staying knowledgeable about system methods, programs, and resources. The teacher will use various methods for diagnosis and placement, exhibit self-control, provide for individual differences, and continually evaluate student progress. Cooperation with school-based and central office personnel, encouraging parent involvement, demonstrating professional growth, participating in inservice training, and contributing to faculty meetings are also key. The role requires conforming to Louisiana laws concerning student education, health, safety, and welfare, assisting in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools, and actively participating in the evaluation process. The teacher will perform all other duties assigned by the principal.
