South Dakota School Counselor Certificate. EXPERIENCE DESIRED: Five or more years’ experience in career education, career counseling and community networking. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, hearing, speaking, keyboarding, use of wrists, hands, fingers, writing, sitting, bending, standing, and walking. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships. Strong organizational skills. Ability to plan, organize, and work collaboratively with other teams. CERTIFICATION This position requires a valid South Dakota certificate. Questions about SD teaching certification: South Dakota Department of Education YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING South Dakota Codified Law 13-42-71 requires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years. Compliance is verified through district accreditation reviews. You will be required to provide your most recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment with the Sioux Falls School District. Please carefully review the options before selecting a training as unapproved trainings will require you to retake an approved course. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES Coordinate a district-wide, systematic career planning program that will assist students in becoming aware of the diversity of career options available to them as they prepare for post-secondary education or entry into entrepreneurship/employment. Collaborate with teachers and counselors to integrate career education curriculum. Oversee the SD DOE career programming for districts including SD My Life and Xello. Coordinate and facilitate training, technical assistance, and professional development to assist teachers and counselors with career development instruction. Develop and collect career education materials and disseminate them to district students, parents, and staff. Expand and develop innovative programs and opportunities to capture student interests with focus on career awareness. Build strong connections with employers, institutions of higher education, community-based organizations. Coordinate with various district administrators and community partners in designing postsecondary pathways. Establish data collection to identify gaps in college and career readiness curriculum. Compile information and report on the effectiveness of the district’s K-12 approach to career awareness and exploration to stakeholders. Participate yearly in either a regional or national conference focused on career development and counseling. Perform other duties as assigned.
