About The Position

MDOC is destigmatizing corrections for the betterment of all Maine communities. Through the ‘Maine Model of Corrections’, we promote the safety of our staff and residents while reducing barriers to meaningful rehabilitative opportunities. We facilitate restorative justice practices that equip justice-involved residents and clients with the skills they need to become contributing members of society upon release, including treatment, education, and job training. The Department of Corrections is accepting applications for a Teacher of Language Arts at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, ME. This is a full-time, year-round, 224-day position with a primary purpose to teach Language Arts to justice to the youth residing at the facility. We are committed to rebuilding lives and are searching for team-oriented professionals with well-developed integrity and ethics to join us in this mission.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • Maine ELA Teaching Certification (100) as issued by the Department of Education.

  • Create a classroom/career area environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
