The Junior Property Accountant is responsible for assisting with important aspects of daily operations in the Property Accounting Department, including supporting the monthly reporting process, recording tenant ledger transactions, owner communications, and bank reconciliation process. This role will play a vital part in supporting efficient accounting operations for a rapidly growing portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of accounting experience, preferably in real estate accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
  • Appfolio experience preferred.
  • Accrual-based institutional financial reporting experience preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot utility billing issues directly with utility companies.
  • Print and mail rent increase letters on a monthly basis.
  • Process tenant security deposit refunds.
  • Receive and respond to tenant ledger inquiries.
  • Record tenant ledger transactions, including charges, credits, and payments.
  • Assist Property Accountants with accounting related requests received from property owners.
  • Assist in the month end close process, including report preparation.
  • Refreshing of the month end reports.
  • Daily/weekly bank recs.
  • Prepare the monthly bank reconciliations for review.
  • GPR postings.
  • Owner distribution for review by accountants as needed.
  • Other ad hoc tasks as assigned.
