About The Position

Scion is paving a path in student living and we’re seeking a talented Junior Property Accountant to join us in executing our vision. This position will focus on providing financial reporting and key insights into the performance of Scion’s communities. The Junior Property Accountant will use a sense of curiosity to resolve variances and develop a financial narrative to drive business decisions. The Junior Property Accountant is a critical thinker who excels in a fast-paced, agile, corporate environment. This role demands principled thinking, well-honed problem-solving skills, a stubborn refusal to settle, and an appreciation of bold innovation. For FLSA purposes, this position is exempt. This position will be based out of Scion's Chicago corporate headquarters and require being fully onsite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred or 0-2 years of relevant work experience in an accounting function.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with PMS systems such as Entrata is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Manages multiple projects and meets goals and deadlines timely and consistently.
  • Versatile, flexible, and thrives in an environment where there are constantly changing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • experience with PMS systems such as Entrata is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Runs processes to prepare and post monthly journal entries.
  • Executes monthly bank reconciliation of all property-level bank accounts.
  • Maintains general ledgers in compliance with GAAP monthly.
  • Review GL Coding and process reclass entries.
  • Prepares and posts monthly/ad hoc journal entries.
  • Provides support to the Property Accounting team as needed, regarding financial performance of assigned properties.
  • Update Real Estate and Personal Property Tax data in the ITAM software module based on tax partner recommendations.
  • Provide coverage to the AR Specialist position.
  • Provides support to auditor inquiries as requested.
  • Other duties as required.
