About The Position

The Junior Medical Dosimetrist at Arizona Center for Cancer Care is responsible for developing, optimizing, and monitoring patient treatment plans, and oversight of advanced treatment procedures. This role requires precise calculations for the implementation of treatment plans, including external beam radiation and brachytherapy.

Requirements

  • Must possess a strong understanding of the characteristics and clinical relevance in managing cancer and other radio-responsive conditions.
  • Completion of 720-hour Medical Dosimetry Internship.
  • Eclipse planning software.
  • Completed or is enrolled in a formal dosimetry program at an AMA-approved institution.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in word processing and computer skills.
  • Must be actively working to complete Medical Dosimetry program.

Responsibilities

  • Designs treatment plans using computer and or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver prescribed radiation doses while sparing critical structures in accordance with the radiation oncologist's prescription.
  • Provide input on the use of ancillary treatment devices and patient immobilization techniques.
  • Accurate transfer and documentation of treatment parameters, both manually and electronically.
  • Identifies normal contours and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets, demonstrating proficiency in image registration with CT, MRI, and PET.
  • Creates and transfers reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery, including DRRs, CBCTs, and other IGRT methods.
  • Supervises simulations and tumor localization using specified imaging devices, including CT, MRI, and PET.
  • Plans and implements the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, and other beam-modifying devices, as well as molds, casts, and immobilization devices.
  • Communicates with the radiation therapists and provides advisory support in implementing treatment plans, including the use of immobilization devices and other treatment parameters.
  • Completes a minimum of 45 tasks per month.
  • Participates in clinical research and continuing education.
  • Engages in quality improvement processes.
  • Completes special projects and assignments directed by leadership.
