About The Position

Description Results Statement: The mission of a Junior Environmental Scientist for HVJ, a leading specialty engineering firm in Texas, is to support the Environmental Manager or other staff as directed to assure client satisfaction through completing environmental field assignments, analyzing environmental data, and preparing technical reports. Ongoing Work: Perform Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments under the direction of a Senior Environmental Scientist/Geologist to investigate the nature and extent of soil/sediment and groundwater contamination. Observe and log soil explorations via soil boring equipment, Geoprobe, and test pit excavations Collect and prepare soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analyses Manage the coordination of subcontractors for field tasks (e.g., drilling, coring, traffic control, etc.) Develop boring logs utilizing information gathered during drilling investigations. Compare laboratory analytical results with state and federal regulatory levels Assess the likelihood of contamination at a site based on regulatory data, historical records, and field observations Write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner Utilize communications skills to interact with both internal and external clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology/environmental science or a science-related field, such as geosciences, engineering, biology, chemistry, or physics.
  • Excellent verbal communication, listening and writing skills will allow you to share research findings with your colleagues.
  • To solve problems, you will need the ability to weigh the merits of possible solutions.
  • You will frequently have to work independently which will require you to be very focused and motivated.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with no history of accidents or alcohol/drug related traffic offenses and valid right to work documents.
  • Complete defensive driving course and obtain certificate before driving company vehicles and repeat as necessary.
  • Ability to lift 35+ lbs during field investigations.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of experience in environmental consulting (preferred).
  • Experience with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Wetlands Assessments, Threatened and Endangered Species, Cultural Resources, and/or permitting procedures (preferred).
