About The Position

Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking an Environmental Scientist or Geologist to join our Contamination and Due Diligence Team. This role will support energy infrastructure, transportation, and redevelopment projects through the completion of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Phase II Environmental Investigations. The position requires strong technical knowledge of environmental regulatory criteria related to soil, groundwater, and soil vapor. The ideal candidate will be located in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area, though a hybrid work arrangement may be considered. This is a full time, benefits eligible position. This is primarily a field-based role, and candidates should expect to spend approximately 50 to 70 percent of their time in the field. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $79,400 to $119,500, depending on qualifications and experience. why Merjent? Requirements

  • B.S. in Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Environmental Chemistry, or closely related field.
  • 3+ years of professional environmental experience.
  • Applicable due diligence experience in Minnesota.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
  • ASTM E1527 Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Practices for Commercial Real Estate certification required.
  • Experience in environmental report generation and implementation of RAPs, CCPs, Phase I ESAs, and or Phase II ESAs.
  • Skilled in the operation and maintenance of field equipment, including PIDs and 4-gas meters.
  • Environmental construction monitoring, including collection of GPS data points, soil and groundwater sampling, soil classification, field screening, and creation of daily field reports.
  • Adept at reading and interpreting geological maps and databases.
  • Initiative-taker with excellent organizational/task management skills.
  • Highly adaptable with a strong ability to work well under pressure and timeframe constraints.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, and in the context of a larger team with other project managers.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and interpret data from multiple sources and translate that information into easily understandable written deliverables.
  • Must be willing to conduct field work as needed (50-70%), depending on project and/or program needs.
  • Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental field tasks and environmental reporting tasks.
  • Manage and/or support Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Phase II ESAs for transportation, redevelopment, and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Author or assist with technical reports, including Phase I ESAs, Phase II Drilling Investigation reports, Response Action Plans (RAPs), Construction Contingency Plans (CCPs), and construction monitoring reports.
  • Manage/conduct construction monitoring for transportation, redevelopment, and utility projects; including field screening, field reports, soil and groundwater sampling, impacted media management and documentation, and use of various field equipment (photoionization detector (PID), 4-gas meter, etc.).
  • Support desktop contamination research for energy infrastructure projects, including the development of Construction Contingency Plans/Health and Safety Plans.
  • Work as part of a team to complete and review projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
