Under supervision, the Junior Engineer performs beginning-level engineering work in the field and the office, adhering to established engineering methods and procedures. This role involves assisting professional engineers with tasks requiring advanced engineering skills and judgment, and making contacts with the public, contractors, and other stakeholders on engineering matters. Key responsibilities include gathering, preparing, and maintaining engineering data, records, and reports. The Junior Engineer applies engineering principles and practices to various problems in civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, or transportation engineering. Additionally, the Junior Engineer may be responsible for directing the work of technical and/or clerical staff.
