About The Position

As a Junior Engineer on the Structural Assessment team at Consor, you will have a mix of field and office opportunities. Your field work will encompass inspection of all types of bridges, overhead signs, dams, and tunnels. Travel to these structures could be locally or even across the United States on an infrequent basis. In the field, you will be collecting measurements, using various methods to document structural conditions, take photographs, and complete other documentation, while recording the information on a tablet. Access to each structure is unique and can include ladders, drones, hydraulic lift equipment, climbing, or underwater diving inspection. Office-based work includes development of inspection reports, Structural Analysis, load ratings, and repair/retrofit design. This opportunity will make full use of your engineering degree with a mix of field work, travel opportunities, and advancement of your technical skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural or related Engineering discipline (ABET-accredited preferred).
  • Ability to work constructively in a team environment, grow to supervise other's work, communicate and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Willing to attend bridge inspection training courses based on the FHWA Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual (BIRM) and keep current with refresher and continuing education requirements.
  • Must be open to trave out-of-state or on short notice for emergency work.
  • Must be physically able to perform bridge inspection task in the field, including different types of access and conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification is a plus.
  • Any NHI bridge inspection coursework is a plus.
  • Any bridge inspection experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts safety inspections of bridges and other structures, and prepares associated written technical reports and electronic drawings.
  • Assists inspections using various testing methods, mechanized access machinery, climbing or diving equipment, and drones or sonar scanning devices.
  • Mobilizes to other offices/states as required to staff additional inspection teams.
  • Performs additional structural assessment-related duties as assigned or required.
  • Assist with preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and technical responses for proposal requests.
