About The Position

The Division of Marketing & Communications tells the story of Texas A&M and promotes and protects the Texas A&M brand. We achieve our goals through: Messaging, Branding, and Brand Oversight. The Graphic Designer II, under direction, is responsible for supporting various design and development needs related to marketing and communications for the university, including designing and editing graphics/photos for use in social media, websites, campaigns, brand experiences, events and other purposes. Performs complex graphics design and consultation work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, fine arts, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in graphics design, web development, print and electronic media, marketing or related design fields.
  • Expert skill level using Adobe Creative Suite, including: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, AfterEffects, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong understanding of design principles and motion design principles.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years' experience in design, including print and online media.
  • Experience working in marketing and communications field and working within brand guide or standard.
  • Experience with project management or using a project management tool.
  • Understanding of principles of animation and templates building.
  • Understanding of social media strategy.
  • Ability to create print specifications, obtain print bids, prep files for printing, oversee proofing and production and perform press checks.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Passion for and deep understanding of Texas A&M’s mission, values, and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Graphic Design & Production: Uses complex information and data to determine and implement the best graphic format for most effective visual communication.
  • Creates original illustrations for use in marketing materials, both print and digital.
  • Designs and produces university advertising for both print and digital media.
  • Designs and produces supporting material for conferences and events (i.e., incentive items, displays, signage).
  • Designs and produces social media graphics for multiple university channels, according to varying specifications.
  • Brand Management Platform: Creates templates within the brand management platform in accordance with brand guidelines and campus initiatives.
  • Designs and produces print and digital templates in a variety of software for campus communicators.
  • Motion Graphics Production: Designs and produces motion graphics for use in video, social media and other channels.
  • Project Coordination/Project Management: Obtains pricing, preps files and oversees production.
  • Oversees press checks if necessary.
  • Manages communication and oversees projects conducted with vendors.
  • Information Awareness: Follows industry trends through blogs, e-newsletters and social media.
  • Looks for innovative ways to illustrate and share information to appropriate audiences.
  • Keeps track of trends and news in related areas, such as marketing, advertising and higher ed.
  • Seeks out and participates in training to enhance or develop new skills Performs other duties as assigned.
