About The Position

At VJ, the Consumer Insight & Strategy team is focused on uncovering consumer motivations, behaviors, and engagements to create brand connections for our clients that don’t currently exist. Beyond being the voice of the consumer in the agency process, the Consumer Insight & Strategy team is dedicated to helping our work connect more meaningfully—with both clients and consumers—through personal relevance and impact that extends beyond the transaction. The team is responsible for uncovering key strategic insights—drawn from custom and secondary research, data, and culture—to underpin advertising ideas and inform broader brand strategies that achieve client business goals. The Junior Strategist supports the Insight & Strategy team and works closely with multidisciplinary partners across the agency, including creative, account service, integrated media and data, to help turn insights into inspired, effective work.

Requirements

  • Adept in lateral, analytical and strategic thinking; able to apply creative thinking to business problems.
  • Skillful in differentiating core advertising ideas from executional treatments and astute in assessing when ideas meet the brief and how they will influence behavior.
  • Steadfast in guiding creative work to meet the brief and committed to nurturing work that does so.
  • The ability to sift through information to identify concepts that are not only interesting and relevant, but are motivating to original creative concepts
  • Knowledgeable about our client’s business and market, and where and how advertising contributes to client success.
  • Eagerness and ability to present ideas and work.
  • Exceptional in written and verbal communication.
  • Fascinated by human behavior, social trends and cultures and how ideas influence people.
  • Always on the lookout for emerging trends and curious about ideas and new ways of looking at the world.
  • 2 - 3 years agency experience
  • A college degree
  • A sense of optimism that is only matched by your sense of curiosity about the world around you.
  • A sense of urgency in getting work completed and an ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • A love of the advertising industry and a desire to create exceptional work that solves business issues.

Responsibilities

  • Work with client teams to understand business objectives and then develop clear, effective consumer-behavior motivated communications strategies that deliver against those objectives.
  • Support analysis and synthesis of consumer, brand, market, and cultural research, identifying what matters most given client goals and challenges.
  • Assist in the development of strategic frameworks, brand positioning, and creative briefs that guide campaign development.
  • Support the development of sharp, insightful trend reports, POVs, and cultural insights across a variety of industries.
  • Champion and support the creative development process, including briefing creative teams and helping generate excitement around the strategic direction.
  • Gather data and prepare effectiveness and post-campaign reports to support optimization and iterative campaign development.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant market, category, platform, and cultural trends affecting client accounts and the broader advertising and communications industry.
  • Work cross-functionally—especially with creative and account teams—to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met.
  • Support the development of qualitative and quantitative research studies, including vendor coordination and management.
  • Explore research and insight tools and maintain a database of research and insight vendors.
  • Monitor and assess the cultural landscape within our clients’ industries, conducting ongoing cultural audits to uncover consumer behaviors and social insights that support new business, creative development, and research projects.
  • Support client workflow within the I&S team and across the agency.
  • Provide general organizational and operational support to help keep the Insight team running smoothly.
