About The Position

Blue Water Thinking is seeking an experienced and dedicated Junior Communications Product Specialist to join our team, supporting the Integrated Healthcare Transformation (IHT) initiative. This role will be essential in supporting communication efforts for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), assisting with public relations, information output, press releases, media requests, social media management, and advertising. The Junior Communications Product Specialist will collaborate with senior team members to ensure effective communication strategies are implemented.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with media relations, including drafting press releases and supporting media inquiries.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and content management systems.
  • Basic understanding of the principles of public relations and media outreach.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required federal public trust clearance for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with or supporting federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Familiarity with healthcare communication strategies, especially in the public sector.
  • Proficiency in social media analytics and management tools.
  • Ability to create basic multimedia content, including graphics or video for social media.
  • Knowledge of content management systems (CMS) and website maintenance.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise content for various audiences.
  • Experience managing or supporting social media channels and digital communications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and execution of communication strategies supporting VA healthcare transformation initiatives.
  • Support media relations activities, including drafting press releases and responding to media inquiries.
  • Assist in managing and creating content for social media platforms, ensuring consistency with the VA’s messaging.
  • Coordinate internal and external communications, including preparing communication materials such as presentations, reports, and briefings.
  • Help monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts, including tracking media coverage and social media engagement.
  • Support advertising efforts across different channels, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Assist in maintaining content on the VA’s public-facing websites and digital platforms.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide updates on communication initiatives.
  • Assist senior communications staff with day-to-day activities related to public relations and outreach.
