This role is for a Junior Cabling Installation Technician to support projects in the Baltimore, MD area, primarily responsible for the installation of premise network cabling systems.

Requirements

  • Eligibility to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Ability to travel as needed to meet project requirements.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the installation of copper and fiber-optic cable plants.
  • Highly proficient in the installation and test of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.
  • Possess a demonstrated ability in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages and applying that knowledge to the cabling installation while promoting a safe work environment and implementing safe work practices.
  • Must be proficient in the proper handling, installation, of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.
  • Must be proficient in the installation of various types of cable tray, PDS, and EMT conduit up to 4 inches.
  • Possess experience with access points, repeaters, data center, computer lab, Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), direct access storage drive, mainframe, open systems and switches/routers.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be confined space certified for outside plant installations.
  • Permit-Required Confined Spaces Certification.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • Aerial and Scissor Lifts Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer 1 (INST1) certification.
  • BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) certification.
  • BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the installation of premise network cabling systems.
  • Install, label and test premise cabling, connections, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, Protective Distribution System (PDS) conduit, and associated hardware.
  • Update cable run sheets and other documentation as required.
  • Read and interpret system installation drawings and design packages and apply that knowledge to cabling installations.
  • Install LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination and test fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.
  • Label cables and associated hardware according to standards and cable run sheets.
  • Install various types of cable tray, Protective Distribution Systems (PDS) and EMT conduit up to 4 inches.
  • Able to fusion splice fiber optic cable.
