About The Position

This role is an opportunity for a natural problem-solver, a self-starter, who thrives in a small, dynamic organization. We are looking for someone highly motivated by growth-edge challenges, the chance to design systems from the ground up, improve how we collaborate, and directly see how your work enables Canopy's mission to protect the world's forests. The role will focus on operationalizing a Salesforce overhaul, supporting the rollout of new accounting systems, and improving how organizational information is structured and accessed across the organization. This includes designing and implementing an organizational knowledge base, restructuring document storage and information architecture, and supporting staff adoption of new systems and ways of working. The Junior Business Systems Analyst will work closely with Operations, Impact teams, Development, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), Culture and Engagement, IT support, and external partners to ensure systems are fit for purpose, intuitive, and scalable. This role is well-suited to someone motivated to create socioenvironmental impact, loves data, brings strong systems judgment, enjoys hands-on delivery, and understands how early implementation and enablement choices shape long-term usability and data quality.

Requirements

  • You are highly motivated by complex projects where you can build, improve, and see a direct link between your work and real-world environmental impact.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit - shown through starting initiatives, leading volunteer projects, or thriving in fast-paced, less-structured environments.
  • Our mission resonates with you, and you want to apply your skills for greater purpose.
  • You likely have 1–2 years of hands-on experience practicing business systems analysis, OR compelling equivalent experience that demonstrates your aptitude for this work.
  • This role is best suited to candidates with 1-2 years of hands-on experience practicing business systems analysis in real organizational contexts. Candidates may meet the qualifications for this role through a combination of business systems analysis, implementation, or administration experience, or through closely related operational, data, or systems-support experience where they have supported how systems and data are used across teams.
  • Exposure to the administration of business systems (CRM, ERP, HRIS, accounting, marketing, or service platforms), including configuration, automation, and reporting as part of broader organizational work flows
  • Strong data management skills, including imports/exports, formatting, deduplication, field mapping, cleanup, reconciliation, and basic spreadsheet formulas
  • Experience working with role- and permission-based access models (e.g., roles, permission sets, profiles), and the ability to follow established change control and UAT processes.
  • Ability to translate identified organizational needs into practical system updates, and to provide clear documentation and basic user support.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion in all aspects of the job.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional attitude under pressure or shifting priorities.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to solve non-routine problems independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, while supporting staff with diverse levels of technical comfort.
  • Embrace a “Yes, AND...” mindset to foster innovation and collaboration (link to https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-does-mean-say-yes-change-jordan-hirsch/)
  • A passion for protecting the world’s forests.
  • Supporting system analysis, updates, or user support in any organizational context.
  • Taking initiative on a complex project outside a defined role (e.g., overhauling a process, leading a data cleanup, building a solution for a volunteer initiative).
  • Experience in entrepreneurial ventures, mission-driven organizations, or environments that required you to be highly relational, nimble, and a self-directed problem-solver.
  • Practical data management, process documentation, or supporting team adoption of new tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting nonprofit data systems, including routine donor or program data updates and basic reporting.
  • Direct Salesforce configuration experience, including Objects, Fields, Flows, Validation Rules, and Reports/Dashboards.
  • Salesforce certifications (Admin, Advanced Admin, Platform App Builder) or Trailhead Superbadges.
  • Experience with integrations (APIs, Mailchimp, Zapier/Make) or basic SOQL.
  • Experience with more advanced data management through the use of SQL or R programming.
  • Knowledge of data governance or privacy/compliance considerations (e.g., GDPR, CPRA, PIPEDA) in a CRM context.

Responsibilities

  • Support organization-wide business systems improvements, with a focus on Salesforce for fundraising and campaign data, knowledge management, and other key systems used across Programs, Development, and Operations.
  • Support the rollout and adoption of a redesigned Salesforce used by Programs and Development teams.
  • Coordinate data readiness, migration, and integrations related to Salesforce, accounting and other operational systems.
  • Lead improvements to document storage, archiving, and information organization, including supporting the implementation of a knowledge base.
  • Support data quality, reporting and system alignment ensuring consistency across platforms, in partnership with Operations leadership and MEL.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, guidance, and training materials to support effective system use and handoff.

Benefits

  • Canopy offers a competitive salary range.
  • We also offer comprehensive benefits packages, professional development opportunities, and a supportive workplace culture dedicated to environmental conservation.
  • At Canopy, we prioritise the well-being and growth of our team members, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to excel in their roles and contribute meaningfully to our mission.
