About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant for a full-time role supporting METECS’ Accounting team. This position involves applying financial regulations—including Cost Accounting Standards and GAAP—to company processes, policies, and procedures. Under the guidance of the senior accountant, the Junior Accountant will help maintain accurate financial records, prepare reports, and contribute to various accounting functions. The Junior Accountant will play a key role in daily accounting operations and financial analysis, supporting the Senior Accountant with the following responsibilities:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least one year of proven experience as a junior accountant.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency is Microsoft Excel and Word at an intermediate level.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to plan effectively, work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and maintain schedules.
  • Team oriented with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Citizenship or lawful permanent resident required due to federal position.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with government contracting processes.
  • Working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
  • Experience using QuickBooks for accounting and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Record and summarize financial transactions, update the general ledger, and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Support accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations to help identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain balance sheet account reconciliations and general ledger account analysis.
  • Prepare and analyze financial information in accordance with GAAP and other applicable regulations and accounting standards.
  • Contribute to daily accounting processes including journal entries.
  • Assist senior accountant with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Assist with monthly analysis of revenue, expenses, and budget variances across departments.
  • Generate routine and ad-hoc financial reports to support operational review and decision making.
  • Participate in special projects as requested.
