About The Position

Directly teach students the Army JROTC Leadership Education Training curriculum and motivate young people to become better citizens. Assist the Senior Army Instructor by establishing procedures relating to the administration, control, and education of students enrolled in the Junior ROTC program. Serve as a Newport Area Career and Technical Center teacher.

Requirements

  • Noncommissioned Officers (E-6 to E-9) – Separated or retired within the past 5 years with at least 8 years of cumulative honorable service.
  • Army NG/US Army Reserve (Actively Serving/TPU) – Same eligibility as above plus Letter of Recommendation from current Commander and current DA Form 5016 or NGB 23A.
  • Meet Rhode Island educator certificate requirements for Army JROTC teachers. Specifically, hold a current and valid Army JROTC Instructor teaching certificate to provide ROTC instruction in Rhode Island public schools (Office of Educator Quality and Certification policy change, August 2012);
  • Evidence of competence in instruction and knowledge of the U.S. Army JROTC Program;
  • Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, teaching experience, and the interview process;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may find acceptable and appropriate.
  • Pass a Tier 1 ChildCare Background Check

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Army Instructor in daily conduct of the JROTC Program to include teaching, supervisory, clerical, and administrative duties as required;
  • Conduct academic instruction in accordance with (IAW) prescribed U.S. Army Program of Instruction. Support NACTC career and technical education programs and initiatives as a CTE teacher.
  • Act as Military Property Specialist, responsible for procuring inventory, storage and issue of clothing and equipment. Serve as primary hand receipt holder IAW Cadet Command Regulation 145-2;
  • Supervise and coach marksmanship training for the air rifle team. Promote scholarship opportunities at collegiate level in this NCAA coed sport;
  • Supervise and coach training of precision drill teams;
  • Assist the Senior Army Instructor in planning and interacting with school, community and civic officials with conducting various activities, parades, and events
