About The Position

The Journeyman Welder is responsible for permanently fitting and welding of various metals to include but not limited to; steel, aluminum,and stainless steel parts using high heat application to form a permanent bond. May specialize in one of hundreds of different processes of welding to join metals together. Certification may be required depending of job specifications.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
4 years experience is required
Welders certification may be required depending of job specifications
Knowledge of welding, structural brake forming and other fabrication processes along with automated welding techniques
Ability to communicate clearly with other employees
All employees must provide and maintain the required tool inventory for this position
Good organizational and time-management skills
Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work
Ability and willingness to work overtime and non-standard schedule: nights, weekends and holidays as/if required
A current valid driver's license is required

Responsibilities

Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
Be proficient in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) as required
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
Determine welding position and type of metal to be fused
Ensure welds meet standards and specifications
Supervise machines or robots that perform automated welding tasks
Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of these essential duties
Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties
Drive a vehicle to various jobsites throughout working hours a. Maintain valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy
Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance
Perform other duties as assigned
