About The Position

The Jockeys’ Room Custodian is responsible for assisting the Clerk of Scales in all responsibilities and attending to Jockeys at Horseshoe Indianapolis by performing the following duties:

Requirements

• A High School Diploma and College experience required.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in racetrack industry at a management level.
• Excellent verbal, mathematics, interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems, offer recommendations, decision making, ability to make quick accurate decisions independently.
• Extensive equine knowledge, types of racing and all racing industry requirements.
• Must be at least 21 years of age or older and be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that Jockeys scheduled to ride are dressed in riding equipment that meets IHRC specifications.
• Inspects Jockeys for specified colors silks, saddle towels, arm numbers, and additional riding equipment.
• Maintains order, cleans Jockeys’ Room, dressings, and riding equipment.
• Examines weighted pads to make certain they are in good condition.
• Weighs Jockeys in at the Winner’s Circle.
• Assists when the Stewards need to speak with a Jockey in the Winner's Circle.
